Travel Dates

The 2011 course dates for North American students are July 9 to 23, including optional international travel to the two other Baltic capitals of Riga and Tallinn July 20 to 23. Note: If you join us for the international travel, on the last day, July 23, we are likely to return to Vilnius after 7:00 p.m., so you should plan your travel home no sooner than the following day, July 24.

You should minimally plan to arrive on Friday afternoon, July 8, and depart on Thursday, July 20. If you are interested in the additional travel at the end, then you should minimally plan to arrive on Friday, July 8, and depart on Sunday, July 24

This is an intensive two-week program that does not include time for much sight seeing, although we have planned events that will let you experience some of the unique Lithuanian culture. If you wish to have time to travel or do further sight seeing, we highly recommend that you join the addition travel July 20-23, and perhaps plan a few days before or after the program is completed.

The general tuition only covers your hotel expenses for check-in July 8 and check-out July 20. If you would like to stay at the same hotel either earlier or later at the same reduced rate offered to this program, you may do so by special arrangement with the program. Write to Patricia Streeter at pas@patstreeter.com for more details.

For those arriving on July 8, a U.S. staff member of the program will meet you at the Vilnius airport, provided that you provide us with your arrival details in advance (i.e., date, airline, flight number, time of arrival).

For General Background on the Republic of Lithuania, visit the CIA Factbook or the U.S. Department of State websites. You may also be interested in events sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius.

Bus/Trolleybus Fare. Public transportation in Vilnius includes buses and trolleybuses. Most routes run from 05:00 until around 23:00 or a little later. The bus and trolleybus fare is 2 Litas if purchased at newspaper kiosks (Lietuvos Spauda) or 2.5 Litas if bought directly from a driver. Rates for students are lower. The fares and schedules can be found at www.vilniustransport.lt/en.

A single ticket is valid for any one journey. There is no public transportation in Old Town, and at present, no buses run at night..

Since July 15, 2010 is it required that you enter all city buses and trolleybuses through the front door and you leave through the back door.

For other practical information and things to do in Lithuania, you may want to browse the “in your pocket series” on Lithuania. When you arrive in-country, the printed version of the series, including Vilnius In Your Pocket is available in bookstores and many hotels. Click here for the December 2010-March 2011 issue for Vilnius.
